The field is a rectangular level surface 24 to 28 metres long and 3,5 to 5 metres wide, delimited by perimeter boards. The purpose of the game is to throw our bowls as near as possible to the small ball. Besides gaining a point by throwing the bowl near the small ball, it is possible to hinder the point of the adversary by striking either his bowls or the small ball away. To this purpose the throw of the bowls can be carried out in "raffa" style (grazing shot) or in "flight" style, that is to say by letting the bowl do a trajectory in the air within a space delimited by the referee. The bowls are balls of synthetic material with a diameter included between 104 m/m and 111 m/m and a variable weight from 860 gr. to 980 gr., while the small ball has a diameter of 40 m/m. It is possible to play either individually (1 against 1) with four bowls for each player, or two by two (teams of two persons) with 4 bowls for each player or in team of three with 2 bowls for each player.
